Procter & Gamble (P&G)

Packaging Engineering Intern

May 2018 • Boston, MA

What I liked

P&G gave me large, meaningful projects that were very challenging but accomplish-able. My opinions were valued and welcomed and I feel that I was able to contribute a lot to the company due to the way they ran their internship program.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more say in the job location/ role that I would be assigned.

Advice

Go in with an open mind. There is a lot that happens behind the scenes that makes the work very interesting. There is a lot of science behind razors, paper towels, etc. and there is a lot to learn.

Sales and Business Development Intern

May - August 2018 • Grand Rapids, MI

What I liked

They had a great training program and cool resources for interns! We got very structured project lists and I knew what was expected of me. Each intern had their own manager and so there was always available help. The company culture is general is also amazing!

What I wish was different

Work hours fed into personal life a lot and you're sort of expected to have eyes on your email at all times no matter what. I wish I had more information going in the the beginning about the kind of work I was going to be doing, because it would have reduced my confusion the first week!

Advice

It's a great opportunity to get your foot in the door of sales, marketing, and simply strategy work. Be ready to work hard and deliver great results. Know that locations are randomly selected and none of your choices might get chosen for you so be flexible.

Manufacturing Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • Bear River City, UT

What I liked

The immersive experience in a manufacturing setting. Getting to work with full-time engineers and help them solve real issues they are experiencing in the plant was rewarding. The hands-on experience helped me learn a lot.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time to interact with the engineers on site. They are all very busy so it is sometimes difficult to schedule time to meet with them.

Advice

Definitely know how to present yourself and present your work in a way that doesn't undermine the quality of your work. Managers won't see the work you've done if you don't show it to them, so hone your presentation skills and it'll take you a long way.

Contractor

May - August 2018 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

I enjoyed the independence, however there was structure there that helped me when I needed it.

What I wish was different

I was not "technically" a part of P&G as a contractor, so I wish I was more involved in company wide events, but I was not technically part of the P&G team.

Advice

Definitely don't be afraid to mess up, you will learn it can get fixed and odds are it will never happen again.

What I liked

I loved the freedom and responsibility I was given. I felt like a real employee, not just a summer intern. I was treated like everyone else in the office.

R&D and Process Development Engineer Intern

June - August 2020 • North Chicago, IL

What I liked

I loved the amount of agency P&G gave me over my work. I had 4 real, high capital, engineering projects that had real impact at my site. I was expected to deliver, but I also had excellent management and resources to help me learn and provide excellent outcomes. Great company culture and communication. I was also fortunate enough to be in person. I loved working with P&G and really see a future with the company.

What I wish was different

I personally don't have much to change. The internship program is well developed. I wish I had been a little braver and more confident in my work though. I was very afraid that employees would see my work as lesser since I was an intern, but by the end of my internship I realized how valuable and solid it was.

Advice

Build relationships within a company. The relationships you build will help you and your career far more than anything else.

Consumer and Market Analyst Intern

May - August 2020 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

I really enjoyed the structure of the internship program. I was given a manager, mentor, and coach. We also had weekly training sessions to improve our skills and learn how to use different softwares and programs. We also had access to company affinity groups which was amazing. The projects throughout the internship were also realistic and had an impact on the team since they were aligned with their quarterly goals.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have had more time to work on my final project because it was all new to me, but I had only a few weeks to work on it.

Advice

Make sure to network with as many people as possible. Ask questions. Work hard. Learn as much as you can!

Manufacturing Engineering Intern

May - August 2020 • Mehoopany, PA

What I liked

This is a great comprehensive internship. Support was provided for interns from everyone you work with. Everyone I met was very willing to help since they are all familiar with the internship program. I also had a personal coach who helped to guide me and who I shared an office with and got the chance to touch base with and ask for advice on a daily basis. Outside of work, they provided housing for all the interns in one convenient location. This was great for getting to know the other interns and having a support group to go to and ask questions. P&G also organized great programs like kayaking trips, hiking trips, flag football games, and bonfires for everyone at the plant so that there was ample opportunities to get to know people around the plant and get a feel for the town and the culture.

What I wish was different

Honestly can't think of a single area where they were lacking. They have been running this internship program successfully for so long, by now they have ironed out all the kinks and thought of everything.

Advice

Make sure you take advantage of everything the internship has to offer. Talk to everyone, meet everyone you can, go to all the events. Soak it all in!

Manufacturing Intern

May - July 2020 • Lima, OH

What I liked

I enjoyed the character of the people at the plant I worked at. Everyone I met was incredibly helpful and friendly. I also was in charge of four projects over the course of the summer. I had a ton of responsibility that was making a difference on the manufacturing floor. I was able to make lifelong connections and friends through the mentorship program and connecting with other interns.

What I wish was different

I worked during the pandemic with COVID-19 being a prevalent concern the entire summer. I do wish that it was not an issue, but I definitely feel that I had an extremely beneficial experience. Even with the pandemic, I felt comfortable going to work every day and interacting with coworkers.

Advice

I really enjoyed my internship because it gave me a new view on engineering and how my classes related to real world problems. My advice would be to any student offered an internship to make as many connections as possible. Reach out to people you don't know in other departments and try to get a feel for the personality of your coworkers. My connections help me land my dream location with the company for the next summer.
