What I liked

Positive and quick hiring process, learned a lot of Linux commands and got real industry experience. Worked with software development which was a pleasant surprise.

What I wish was different

Absolutely terrible internal dialogue, teams were mean to each other and the environment was pretty hostile, especially between project managers and developers. People were rude and unhelpful to each other, teams would fight, and there was little-to-no respect between departments.

Advice

Make sure you figure out if a company respects their employees and treats each other well before agreeing to work there for 10 weeks

Software Engineering Intern

What I liked

Rocket Software was very open to what I would work on. I had very little front end experience and they allowed me to spend the time to learn Javascript and React. MY manager was also extremely nice and was happy to spend time with my intern team. We were also able to work on real products used by the company and were overall treated like real employees.

What I wish was different

I wish we had actually been given more work to do. There was a fair amount of downtime during some weeks. They also had a kind of career development series for all the interns (including nonengineering roles), that I did not find very useful and felt more like a waste of time.

Advice

I think Rocket Software could be a great place to intern if you are still very early on in your experience with computer science. They provide a lot of opportunities to learn, but I think that long term, they are not a place I would ever work full time.
